Could that be why some games don't run at all, because they need to read from the DSP, and what they don't get causes it to lock up?

Not sure it'd break games to the point of not booting at all, but I'm pretty sure it's causing issues to some games. I know that Super Bomberman 2 completely stops playing sound after a while (although I suspect that's a cause of the SPC sync issue, not DSP stuff).


Thing is, emulating this correctly while retaining the advantage of threaded DSP is tricky. Maybe it could be done this way:

* if a read happens, tell the DSP to run until this point (using SPC_ElapsedCycles and saving the 'date' of the last run to determine how long it should run for)
* then wait till it's done and read the value
* the rest of the time, run the DSP like we're doing currently (accounting for runs caused by reads)

* I don't know what the performance implications of this are, especially with things like waiting for the syscore thread-- syscore is busy running the rest of the system too. Should be okay, though.
* mixer needs to be able to mix arbitrary amounts of samples (right now it needs a multiple of 16, seems it would hang otherwise)
* mixer needs to raise a signal when it's done mixing

Using BlargSnes 1.3 CIA on my O3DS 9.8 emunand, and just getting a black screen that turns my DS completely unresponsive. No home button or sleep mode or anything. Any idea what could be wrong?

Just a word of caution for those attempting to build blargSNES using the latest ctrulib, an update from around May 24th will result in a corrupted background border, due to the width/height inputs being switched to conform to texture standards. In-game graphics looks to be unaffected because the textures uses for in-game hardware rendering have the same width/height values.

Because it uses a special chip, which is not implemented. No special chips have been implemented. IMO, I think the base system needs more work done before those get implemented.

I unfortunately can't help you there, since I not only have stuck with 9.2, but don't use CIAs or emunand.

Yep, same exact problem here. Tried both the v1.3 .3ds and .cia on 3ds w/ 9.8 emunand using gateway, both result in a black screen that requires a hard reboot to get out of.

yeah me to i have the same exact problem as this tried the cia and 3ds version of the 1.3 with gateway even tried the 1.2 version both 3ds and .cia just goes black screen im useing emunand 9.8 with rxtool sig patch and gateway same emunand even on sysnand useing gateway same result a blackscreen

Just chiming in, I am also having the same issue on 9.8 emunand.

Good luck with 1.4, I really can't wait to see the improvements.

Old 3DS, Emunand 9.8 rxPasta.

Black Screen, 3DS freezing, no home button just hard reset.

tried 1.2 and 1.3. Hope that we get a working version soon!

I bet it's because of libhax because it doesn't work on 9.8.
There should be an extra check to make sure libhax never runs for firmwares >9.2.

Hello StapleButter, thank you very much for the best emulator, hell, best homebrew app that exist for 3DS.

I recently got a brand new O3DS and installed GW emuNAND immediately and installed blargSnes via the .CIA, but unfortunately it doesn't work at all. When I attempt to boot the app, it stays at a black screen until a hard power off. It seems other people here are reporting the same problem with the same hardware. Is there a solution anywhere in sight? For the record I'm on 9.2U sysNAND and 9.8U emuNAND.

I have been enjoying blargSnes on my N3DS immensely. I have 9.0E sysNAND and 9.5E emuNAND and it runs fine.

So then... considering buying a 3DS for cheap just to try this out. I currently have a DSiXL with Supercard DSTWO running latest card firmware, is homebrew 3DS stuff like blargSNES gonna work straight away with this card? I'm no expert but I was guessing that it'll run in DS mode so won't be able to use the 3DS's more powerful CPU/GPU properly... I'm hoping someone will say I'm wrong there cos I'd rather not buy/configure a whole nother flashcard!

Well it actualy starts and plays just fine if you use a O3DS 9.8 rxTools, but just if you delete everyting about Blargsnes from the SD card but the ROM folders. If you close the app, some files are made then it will hang after.

just getting on to mention hey ive been playing alot of blarg snes lately =P actually its one of the only reasons i use my 3ds atm megaman x is pretty cool also playing DKC and super mario world thanks for such a great emulator staplebutter looking forward to version 1.4 !
