For people wondering why blargSNES doesn't seem to work with HomeMenuHax and various others, the word on the street is that it locks up due to the 2nd core not being initialized, as blargSNES is one of the few apps that utilizes it. HomeMenuHax and others like it do not initialize the 2nd core for app use. Thankfully, until this is fixed (which is not on blargSNES's end), you can initialize it yourself by running an existing app, like the Music Player. Here are the steps to get it working through HomeMenuHax.

- Boot system as normal (no loading of HomeMenuHax just yet)
- Launch the Music Player app (this app will initialize the 2nd core)
- After it is loaded, press the power button once to be notified the software was closed.
- Press the Home button to return to the Home Menu
- Hold L as it is loading back the Home Menu to launch HomeMenuHax
- Go about your business from there

Please PLEASE continue to spread this news all over the Reddit threads regarding the recent panic about TubeHax being patched. I was pretty distraught until I came across this post!

EDIT: Sadly, I'm still not able to get it working with this method however. The Music Player app ("Nintendo 3DS Sound" or am I missing something?) doesn't seem to fix the core initializing issue, neither does running YouTube (still without the update) and then continuing these steps.

This method worked for me at first time, but after a second try the emulator froze again. Then I deleted the blargsnes.ini file from the SD root and ran the emulator again. It's working pretty well so far.

Just to let everyone know, this issue will be fixed when ***hax 2.5 is released (as said by smealum on the github issues page of homemenuhax).

Who continues blargSnes now btw? It's a great piece of sw and deserves to be continued.

So is this still being updated, or is 1.3 the final version?

The latest version is 1.3, but there's an unofficial release (1.3b), you can check at http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/BlargSnes_Compatibility_List

After the last update from nintendo that patches themehax (the auto-booting exploit) and browserhax, I cannot run other roms in blarg 1.3 other than ISS Deluxe, but I can still run LttP on blarg 1.2...

I use OoThax.
Any ideas?

I started using this with tubehax, then I installed themehax and for some reason the emulator froze everytime when I load a ROM, but now it works again which is curious as I didn't do anything as far I'm aware of...

SMB All-stars + SMW works great, although on SMW some sounds are either missing (press switch) or sound bad.

Gradius 3 in level 2, the music is glitching when the game lags a lot.

I don't use gateway by the way, I assume that's flashcart stuff?

Did you take a look at the Compatibility List? TLOZ - A Link to the Past runs in 1.2v but doesn't in 1.3

Yea, I did not phrase it correclty.
I tried 1.3 with other roms and 1.2 with LttP

Anyway, its ok now, it has longer loading times and some times gets stuck when changing roms, but generally it runs ok

Okay. blargSNES may see an upgrade, depending on my motivation and... things. fincs has been doing a lot of reverse-engineering, enabling many new fun things.

It will be adapted to the great-refactor branch of ctrulib. (anyone remember 1.0->1.1 and the ctrulib branch switch it involved? living the old times again~)

The blargGL layer will need to be rewritten accordingly. The new GPU API is basically the minimum you need to use the GPU. blargGL will come on the top of that. Better understanding of the GPU also means it will be more performant.

I also want to rewrite the hardware renderer for better performance (and more manageable code). There are also new ideas from Discostew and me that are waiting to be implemented.

There will also be other changes unrelated to graphics.

New ctrulib features an API for using the DSP (along with an official binary), and the DSP is much better fitted to do proper sound streaming than CSND. Needed precisions will be given about which situations require obtaining a DSP binary yourself, and how to do it.

Oh and I hope to finally fix the SPC700 timing. If I manage to get it right, that will fix many issues, especially the "game works in version X but not Y" shit.

Before all that, there'll be a new build with minor fixes (fixed APT, and setting for New3DS overclock).

My tinkered version that is using the most recent ctrulib (not currently available on gitHub) seems to be working fine with *hax 2.5, sleep mode and all. Won't include the stuff I was tinkering with, but when I have the time, I'll see about updating the gitHub.

1.3b was already released, but relinked here for more visibility. It works on the latest *hax.

Yes. Thank you for working on this one.
Many devices already emulate SNES, but SNES on the 3DS just feels right. I enjoy it much more compared to the PSP, for example.
The retroarch project sounds intriguing, although SNES emulation is still way too slow on my o3DS.
Maybe you could contribute to the retroarch project? Other cores could probably benefit as well.
But obviously, that's not my decision to make...

What does Retroarch's policy say regarding usage of ASM or non-portable things in emulator cores?

Where am I going wrong? I have installed blargSNES 1.3 on my Old 3DS XL 10.2.0.28 U and can get the home-brew to work and got the icon to load once or twice but it doesn't load to anything when I click it. Sometimes the icon doesn't even show up. I have tried to install and reinstall it multiple times can can not get it to work. I would say my tech knowledge is at least a 6 out of 10 so please be gentle ha. I am having the same issue will trying to put other emulators on there too. Even the mgba emulator runs everything super slow to where its unplayable. What am I doing wrong...I love you all for the work you do and will love you even more once I get this working. OH I am using NinjHax 2.5 if that matters

Thank you so very much! That made it load to the point to where I can at least scroll through my moms. I clicked on a few of them and they load beautifully but when i push a button they freeze. Is there a button map or is it the same as it SNES

Ok Zelda is not working everything else so far is now working
