This is still an idea and there are no definite plans.

Vote to the poll: HERE

I have another board, which is there: https://kuribo64.net/board/

It has originally been about SMG hacking, but now, that's dead. It's trying to recenter over 3DS and WiiU hacking as most of the community moved on to these things, but WiiU stuff is mostly happening in other places.

We're mostly working on NSMB2 hacking, but we want to do 3DS hacking in general.

Given this board is also about 3DS stuff, a merge could make sense (and reduce maintenance and all that). There are some issues though:

* userbase clash: this board is generally more serious, Kuribo64 is more relaxed
* Kuribo64 focuses more on ROM hacking, this place focuses over homebrew and RE
* merge logistics aren't trivial

In my opinion merge those two boards does not seem like a bad idea. Why not ?

Plus, for the points you mentioned, here are my thoughts (if nobody cares, that's okay, I'll understand) :
* It doesn't bother me at all. I can be either serious or relaxed. I'm more worried about the fact that for people coming from Kuribo64 who are used to be relaxed might be disappointed if there is "too much seriousness" (I don't really know if you get what I mean).
* With HANS and braindump (btw, thanks neobrain for your awesome tool <3), ROM hacking could definitely be a thing, so again, why not.
* Well that's the main problem and unfortunately I won't say anything about it other than "sorry but I don't know anything so I can't help you" :/

tl;dr : do what you want but in my opinion that's not a bad idea.

"Merge logistics" would mostly be going to the other board and reposting shit there. There's no easy way to merge things automatically.

I'd prefer the seriousness separated from more relaxed stuff. I am one of those guys that when is developing, prefers to have focus on the matter.

So if there's serious threads for research/development as long they are moderated OK / well respected among users then I don't mind..

As far as Kuribo64 goes, both are separated, and completely non-serious/offtopic posts in serious threads are discouraged.

I don't mind it beeing merged. Having an extra subforum for 3DS hb and reverse engineering should be fine.

Making this an announcement to give it more visibility.

Sounds good, and that site has more activity so it will be for a good.

The more the merrier :). I think more users (as long as that doesn't mean noobs galore) are good to keep the discussion alive.

you know, guys

the merge would involve reposting things on the new board

considering how many people seem to care about 4dsdev (by for example applying for a staff position or helping improve the outdated tutorials), I can foresee it being a failure

I don't care but I'd like to keep the current posts

as I said, they can't be trivially merged into the other board, so the merge would be a community effort

or maybe they can, but they'd get different IDs and the old URLs would no longer work

i see, well I will try to repost whatever useful i'd/will write then.

Hardcode every URL. hehe :P

In reality, I wouldn't care about setting up some sections and all that.

collect a list of 4dsdev's thread/post/user IDs, set up redirects

could work

/sorry about the bump

I vote yes. I don't really see the purpose of a separate board. One megaboard could fit all, just create another "board" on Kuribo64 (like the SMG2.5 Archive "board"). Plus, if you want this place to get some activity, why didn't you include a link to 4dsdev on the Kuribo64 homepage? I mean, that way some people can actually see this forum. I had to search up site:https://kuribo64.net on google to find this place even.

More serious? Well, just enforce the rules more. On the bigger forums there usually is a forum for "serious chat". More moderation would definitely be the answer to this question.

Kuribo64 focuses on... Well, just make a separate board, or category on K64. Not a forum though, as that'll be pretty disorganized.

Merge logistics? I don't know what that is but maybe just port the SQL data over to a "board" at Kuribo64. Best solution.

I would like to add my honest opinion to this discussion too, as most people here vote yes. :)

I'm very unsure about this. I really enjoy the seriousness on this board. (I've been mostly following it as a guest.) This seriousness could be endangered by integrating it into kuribo64. That is basically why I vote for no.

I would like to keep this as an alternative to gbatemp.

*bump*

literally every single board in existence is an alternative to GBATemp

well the idea was pretty much given up, it's not really worth it anyway

I think a merge could bring a bit more life into this place. You just need to be careful so it does not end up as GBAfail v2.
